REVIEW SUMMARY

And the award for the most unwarranted and unnecessary threequel  goes to… Johnny English! Seriously people, there are now three of these films. Three! As far as “spoof” movies go, this is pretty low on the genre totem pole (a far cry from Austin Powers or The Naked Gun). The main problem is that the “jokes” are plain lazy. Making matters worse, most everything in this “plot” is painfully unoriginal, predictable and contrived. However, genuine laughs can be found in one particular scene where English, in full virtual reality head gear, unknowingly wanders into the streets of London and causes chaos. Here, Atkinson proves he is no doubt very talented (his physical comedy is the stuff of legend). But he deserves so much better! Could the studio not have sprung for some decent writers and done a new Mr. Bean film instead? I’m sure young kids will find some of the juvenile jokes amusing, but make no mistake, the 3rd time is definitely not the charm for this inexplicable franchise!
