REVIEW SUMMARY

Just in time for Halloween, Kirk Thatcher’s Muppets Haunted Mansion is a short and sweet Spooktacular good time! At a brisk 1-hour runtime, the film mixes the necessary Muppet charm with just the right amount of family friendly frights. I will say there is one jump scare involving John Stamos that might have pushed the scare-boundaries a little too much (prepare the little ones). But fear not, kids and adults alike will surely find lots to chuckle over throughout, as the classic vaudevillian style of humour that these characters inhabit so well is back to being top notch. Plus, all our favourites show up for the fun, including Kermit, Miss Piggy, Fozzie, Staler, Waldorf and the bunch (Gonzo and Pepe the King Prawn get the starring treatment though). And hey, there’s also plenty of celeb sightings, with each bringing their own brand of lively fun to mix. Taraji P. Henson is especially entertaining in her black widower role, hamming up an infectious amount of wicked amusement in the process. As for the music, well, the songs are catchy and cute and all, but there’s no real standout amongst them. Will it all be enough to stand alongside other, beloved, Muppet flicks? Time will tell of course, but I think it is safe to say that Muppets Haunted Mansion will find a welcome place on the yearly Halloween watchlist.
