REVIEW SUMMARY

Warning: this movie isn’t what you think it is – it’s worse. The adverts for Serenity are very misleading in that this isn’t some taut suspense thriller with big name actors - it’s more of an odd high-concept fantasy with big name actors. With that said, it isn’t allll bad. Knight gets points for trying something different, even if all his story's puzzle pieces don't fit. The problem is that things become unintentionally laugh out loud silly after a rather weird and anticlimactic twist that turns the movie on its head. McConaughey does well enough with what he's presented, but perhaps over reaches a bit in his performance (but I mean, the whole movie overreached too). In the end, Serenity will almost surely disappoint, but at least you’ll have lots to complain... err, talk about on the car ride home.
