SYNOPSIS

Based on the 1957 Dr. Seuss book How the Grinch Stole Christmas! , it is the 3rd screen adaptation of the story: a television special from 1966 and a live-action feature-length film from 2000 starring Jim Carey.

The Grinch hatches a scheme with his trusted canine Max and reindeer Fred to ruin Christmas for the residents of Whoville.

REVIEW SUMMARY

The 2018 take on the Grinch is an exceedingly fun update on a Christmas-time classic. The film is bright, vibrant and zippy, making it fit right in with the current crop of contemporary animated films. Sure there are zany, madcap moments – (think Looney Tunes), and even Family Guy-esque cutaways (minus the R rated material of course), but the story maintains the same amount of heart as the original. Diehard fans of that 60’s classic cartoon might be thrown at the beginning by Cumberbatch’s voice performance, BUT it does end up settling in and working quite well. Perhaps things get a bit too juvenile at times and some characters are fairly pointless (I.E Keenan Thompson’s Bricklebaum), but kids are surely going to eat this up and parents should add it to their holiday time movie cue.
