REVIEW SUMMARY

As laughable as it is absurd, The Tutor is a jumble of mixed tones with plot holes aplenty! But here’s the thing, it actually starts out pretty strong, building a nice layer of intrigue and investment in the characters. Unfortunately, it doesn’t take long for things to go tumbling downhill – like a ton of bricks. Yes, the plot veers in a bizarre direction and it never recovers. If fact, it only gets worse, all leading to an outrageously rushed (and overly lame) climax. I do feel bad for Noah Schnapp though. While most of his other Stranger Things co-stars have found success in other big screen projects, this movie serves as an embarrassing showcase for his talents. Poor Noah. But, it’s not completely the performers fault though, as the material they were given to work with is some of the laziest I’ve seen. The scriptwriter could have totally used some tutoring of his own (sorry, not sorry). So yes, while things start promising enough, The Tutor descends into straight up stupidity. It’s not so much it’s so bad it’s good, as much as it is so bad it’s bad.
