SYNOPSIS

Based on the book series by P. L. Travers, this is a sequel to 1964's Mary Poppins that starred Julie Andrews

Now an adult with three children, bank teller Michael Banks learns that his house will be repossessed in five days unless he can pay back a loan. His only hope is to find a missing certificate that shows proof of valuable shares that his father left him years earlier. Just as all seems lost, Michael and his sister receive the surprise of a lifetime when Mary Poppins -- the beloved nanny from their childhood -- arrives to save the day.

REVIEW SUMMARY

Mary Poppins Returns is a more than welcome return to cinemas! Quite simply, this is good old fashion storytelling done exceptionally well. In the acting department, Emily Blunt stands out as the film’s highlight delivering quite the magical performance as Poppins (not easy shoes to fill). The rest of the cast does a nice enough job as well with Lin Manuel Miranda especially given lots to do. Luckily for us he’s more than capable of singing, dancing, riding a bicycle with children dangerously balanced on top - you name it. My main disappointment is that the featured songs are a far cry from the original's in that they are (gasp) forgettable. Don't get me wrong, the music and the many musical numbers are highly enjoyable. However, there is nothing that stands out – nothing you'll remember after the credits roll or be able to hum on your way out of theatre. Regardless, Mary Poppins Returns remains a magical family feature for all generations!
