Jonathan is an early riser who works at an architecture firm, whereas John is a night owl and a bit of a mess. The only problem is that they inhabit the same body, which works through careful planning until things start to fall apart.
REVIEW SUMMARY
Playing like a compelling episode of Black Mirror, Jonathan is a skillful sci-fi drama done right. Given the unusual high concept premise, it's important to note that the movie uses restraint by being rather low key as opposed to delivering a true "body horror film" or "sci-fi thriller." And although it does have elements of those, it falls more in line with a hearty drama that plays its gimmick rather smart. That interesting premise mixed with great character studies is enough to keep things enthralling throughout until, sigh, a rather weak conclusion. Ansel Elgort does do an excellent job pulling off the “dual” roles as it’s all so subtly on point, and frankly fun to see. In the end, the film’s presentation and refreshing focus make Jonathan one to watch.
