Quite simply, Late Night is the witty women-led comedy we need right now. Emma Thompson truly shines here in a downright poignant performance, while Mindy Kailing is more than effective in her role - even if it is one she wrote for herself. Kailing's script is really smart though, and chock-full of the best type of workplace humour (think 30 Rock meets Larry Sanders). And as you might imagine, this movie has LOTS to say (and show) about what goes on behind the scenes in the entertainment industry, but never gets preachy about it. In fact, those "behind the curtain" moments make up the majority of the film's best parts. So here's the deal, if you are looking for a light and agreeable night out at the movies, Late Night has got you covered! Now if only Thompson had a real life late night program we could tune into all the time.
