Sadly, not even 2 Will Smiths can defeat the lousy plot in Ang Lee’s Gemini Man. And sure, while there are a handful of exhilarating action sequences (the mid-point motorbike chase being the standout), the majority of the film falters... big time. The story itself is about as stale as a 5-year-old potato chip, featuring a large helping of wooden dialogue and nonsensical plot points (and not the “so bad it's good” kind either). Notwithstanding the narrative bust however, the film does boast phenomenal visual effects, as evidenced by the flawless de-aging techniques used to make Will Smith look like his twenty-something year old "Fresh Prince self." Speaking of Smith, he and the rest of the cast do the best with what they have to wok with, but it all adds up to be a major waste of potential. And with a master director the likes of Ang Lee at the helm, this is a movie that should have been much, much better. I mean, maybe if they didn’t clone the plot of a bad 90’s actioner...
