REVIEW SUMMARY
Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker is packed with action and padded with fan service... lots and lots of fan service. And sure, while that's great and all, it's unfortunately devoid of the "epicness" a major franchise finale of this magnitude should have (see Avengers: Endgame for the epicness I speak of). Say what you will about the previous instalment (The Last Jedi), but the filmmakers there took chances with the story, giving us things we had never seen before in a Star Wars film. Not sure I can say the same for this one. It's the aforementioned action that is the highlight however, as the movie certainly ups the ante in the battle and combat department. There's also an agreeable pace here that never lets up, keeping everything moving along nicely from start to finish. It all looks (and sounds) great as well, with the visual effects and production design giving way to an impressively massive intergalactic scope of things. We also get a fair share of crowd-pleasing cameos, tender send-offs, and meaningful revelations. If only the force was a tad stronger in the overall plot...
