REVIEW SUMMARY

Oceans 11 for preschoolers, The Bad Guys delivers a heavy dose of fast-moving family-friendly entertainment. Yep, it all works! The caper aspect works. The varied villain-adjacent characters work. The vibrant colour palette works. The quippy dialogue works. It’s just a fun movie all-round. Are there a few cheap gags in the mix? Yes – looking at you deadly green Piranha flatulence. But, there’s enough cleverness in the story as well. The heist elements are admittedly very well done, no doubt being many younger filmgoers introduction to that particular genre. The voice cast also nails it – with Sam Rockwell leading the charge in all his smooth-talking glory. There’s a real charm to this film that’s not usually found in animated flicks. It’s not Pixar-level poignancy, but it’s wholly effective. In fact, it might just steal your heart!
