REVIEW SUMMARY
There’s no two ways about it, Slotherhouse will be the best murderous sloth movie you’ll see all year! Yep, this is a movie that gives you exactly what is advertised – an adorably cute sloth killing lots of pretty people in a variety of ways. Wait, how many ways can a sloth off someone you ask? Apparently a lot of ways (did you know they can drive cars?). In case you hadn’t figured it out, this is all played for demented laughs. In fact, it feels very much like an elevated Saturday Night Live faux movie trailer come to life. But that’s not necessarily a bad thing. Au contraire, there’s a lot more to like here than you might think. For one, the filmmakers smartly use practical effects (the puppeteered sloth is the most meme-worthy movie character since Blumhouse’s M3gan). And, with the film’s tongue-in-cheek humour in overdrive, there’s some genuine laugh-out-loud moments. Yes, it’s outrageous, predictable, and absurd to the max, but it’s endlessly entertaining. As for being scary? Well, not quite. Although I’m sure some will find themselves a little jumpy on more than one occasion. Plus, Slotherhouse pays homage to other slashers the likes of Chucky and Scream. It’s part collegiate comedy satire / part gonzo “animal attacks” horror. But most importantly, it’s fully enjoyable!
