REVIEW SUMMARY

In Jocelyn Moorhouse’s The Fabulous Four, the undercooked shenanigans lead to diminished fizzy fun. And frankly, that's a shame, because with the ultra-talented foursome of ladies at the helm, this should be enjoyable to the max. Instead, it's enjoyable to the 'meh.' And let's get one thing straight, it has nothing to do with the actresses on hand - and everything to do with the scripts they were handed. You see, the characters are given poor sitcom-level depth and one-note jokes that get milked until there is not a drop (or chuckle) left. To be fair, there are some genuine light-hearted laughs to be had, and things do start off promising enough. Unfortunately, it doesn’t take long for the paper-thin plot to go down a predictably asinine path. Let’s just say between kegel balls and lots of weed gummies, things get weird (and not in a good way). Another issue I had here has to do with the varying age gaps between these ladies. Based on the information we are given in the film, they should all match up. But, with Megan Mullally, for example, being (and looking) over 10 years younger than some of the others, it just doesn’t fit. Plus, when we’re introduced to Sheryl Lee Ralph’s character’s daughter, she looks only like 5 years younger. Ok, maybe I’m thinking too much into this. Although, I’d wager that when you inevitably disengage from the onscreen story, you’ll no doubt ponder such things too. Sadly, it’ll be more brain stimulating than what’s being presented.
