REVIEW SUMMARY
An emotionally loaded and viscerally inventive body horror takedown of modern relationships, Michael Shank’s Together is a true late-in-the-Summer gem for horror fans. Yep, there’s plenty to admire here, but the film’s biggest asset is the magnetic pairing of Dave Franco and Alison Brie. Their real-life relationship bleeds into their onscreen chemistry, lending a raw authenticity to their back-and-forths. Both actors fully commit - not just emotionally, but physically - to the film’s gnarly, skin-crawling demands. And while they are primarily known for their lighter and comedic filmography, just know that despite some well-timed moments of levity, this is far from a horror-comedy. The scares aren’t traditional though - don’t expect relentless jump scares. But trust me, the unease is constant. It’s a film that crawls under your skin, loaded with sharp commentary on the ways love can consume, contort, and quite literally transform you. Where Together may lose some viewers, however, is in its polarizing ending. No spoilers, but let’s just say the final moments sparked more than a few eyerolls during my screening. Still, the gripping, well-acted and well-shot journey more than earns its place as a uniquely twisted romantic nightmare.
