SYNOPSIS
Is the sixth installment in the DC Extended Universe (DCEU) and the first live-action Aquaman movie.
Once home to the most advanced civilization on Earth, the city of Atlantis is now an underwater kingdom ruled by the power-hungry King Orm. Orm plans to conquer the remaining oceanic people -- and then the surface world. Standing in his way is Aquaman, Orm's half-human, half-Atlantean brother and true heir to the throne.
REVIEW SUMMARY
There's no denying it, Aquaman delivers a tidal wave of fun action! The action sequences are choreographed incredibly well by Wan and crew, making it fun as all hell to watch. In addition, the film's underwater world, Atlantis, is a gorgeous sight to behold (I've heard some say the same about the lead actor too). Speaking of which, Momoa also deserves credit for making Aquaman a modern superhero bad ass and giving off an infectious sense of adventure and gusto (Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson has some big competition). As for the supporting cast – well, they do their job, but this really is the Momoa show through and through. The movie loses marks on things like dialogue (calling it cheesy is being nice) and for an overly generic (and predictable) plot. Without director James Wan and star Jason Momoa, it’s likely this movie would have sunk - instead the DCEU is swimming nicely on the shoulders of Aquaman!
