REVIEW SUMMARY
Darren Aronofsky’s Caught Stealing is a highly entertaining crime caper - anchored by sharp laughs, gritty violence, and meaningful character growth. In fact, it’s easily Aronofsky’s most fun film in years, brimming with a strange charm between all the bullets and bloodshed. At the center is Gerard Butler’s Hank, a hard-bodied, tortured soul who’s as easy to root for as he is to look at. Butler commands the screen here with raw grit and bruised vulnerability, making his journey both thrilling and unexpectedly tender. Surrounding him is a killer supporting cast: Bad Bunny oozes menace, Regina King cuts with precision, and Zoë Kravitz injects punk-rock fire—until, well, you’ll see. Visually, Aronofsky brings the grime of ’90s New York to life so vividly you can almost smell the hot garbage at times. But beneath the grit lies the film’s beating heart: Hank’s earnest transformation, wrapped in a hard shell of masculinity. Yes, the violence is brutal—bodies pile up fast—but it only fuels the fun of guessing who survives and who finds redemption. Brutal, stylish, and surprisingly heartfelt, Caught Stealing is a crime story you won’t want to miss. Just don’t get caught not watching it.
