REVIEW SUMMARY
Netflix's fairy-tale/monster movie Damsel has just 2 things going for it: a feisty Millie Bobby Brown and a pretty cool dragon. What more do we need? Well, for starters, how about a less ludicrous story. Yes, without going into spoilers, just know that the film's bait and switch premise is pretty darn silly. The important thing, however, is that our lead heroine, Bobby Brown, completely commits. Heck, she may have over-committed given the sub-par material. The fierce performance is a genuine highlight however, showcasing the young actresses’ talents once more. You see, her character is transported into a nightmare scenario where she must do everything she can to survive (and right some wrongs). And while we can easily buy into the dangers at play, there's no real question about whether this princess will survive it all. Lack of genuine suspense aside, there are some decent special effects on display. And knowing that Millie did most of her acting in front of green screens and stand-ins makes her performance all the more impressive. Robyn Wright also appears to be enjoying herself, although she doesn't get much to do – nor does anyone else. Nope, this is Millie Bobby Brown's movie. And hey, if she's what you're watching it for, you'll surely dig it! Oh, and the dragon adds some fire to it too...
