REVIEW SUMMARY
Much like Erin Brockovich before it, Dark Waters is yet another sensational true to life underdog lawyer movie that deserves to be seen. Yep, this is one David V.S Goliath tale that will have you sit up in attention to the terrifying real life revelations the film brings to light (it’s truly shocking stuff). And similar to a high profile trial, Director Todd Haynes expertly lays out the facts in convincing fashion, letting all the disturbing details do the talking. If you are looking for contrived cinematic theatrics though, you’ll need to look elsewhere. What this movie lacks in “frills," it makes up for in compelling performances, with Ruffalo in particular playing the determined do-gooder attorney with restrained believability. The one thing it has going against it however, is its familiarity. We have all seen a movie of this nature before, and Dark Waters does very little to set itself apart. Then again, it doesn’t necessarily have to, as this is just as powerful of a retelling as the rest, making it another worthy watch in the dark horse justice genre.
