REVIEW SUMMARY

Robert Connolly returns to direct a sequel to 2021’s dramatic Aussie thriller, The Dry. And what can I say, he delivers another winning dose of simmering suspense and tension. However, one can’t help but feel it lacks the riveting nature of its predecessor. I get that it is a slow burner (nothing wrong with that), it unfortunately starts to meander around the midway point. There’s also lots of flashbacks, side-quests and tangled plot threads that can make things a bit confounding. Fortunately, the ultra-layered plot (centered mostly around corporate culture) is aided by another understated turn from our lead, Eric Bana. Cool as a cucumber, Bana is the unassuming key to the movie’s emotional connection. And much like how the first film benefited from its distinctive setting (a dusty and drought-stricken Australian landscape), this film’s atmospheric forest backdrop adds immensely to the suspenseful narrative. It’s all very lush, with breathtaking vistas and deep greens on display at nearly every turn. So yes, if you’re looking to unravel a well told mystery, then The Dry 2 is the force of nature for you.
