REVIEW SUMMARY
Silly nostalgia at its finest – Lindsay Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis are once again a mismatched delight in Freakier Friday. Yep, you don’t need to worry Millennials, this doesn’t tarnish the original – it celebrates it, wrapping you in the same goofy, warm vibes while whisking you right back to the fun of it all. And that’s exactly what this movie is: fun. It’s inoffensive, harmless, zany, and guaranteed to make you smile. It’s not reinventing the body-swap wheel here – just giving it a fresh spin with updated jokes and a few tweaks. And, what can I say, the old tropes still work like a charm. When was the last time you saw a makeover montage? Here, it’s played with a wink, and the throwbacks are all part of the fun. This is unadulterated nostalgia bait after all. And for their part, Lohan and Curtis slip back into their roles like a perfectly broken-in glove, clearly having a blast – and it’s contagious. The younger newcomers also hold their own, delivering the necessary silliness and energy. You can expect plenty of cameos and call-backs to the 2003 film too. Did I mention it’s all about nostalgia? Even first-time viewers will find enough here to enjoy. Sure, it’s not a slick, big-budget cinematic spectacle. It’s more like a polished Disney Channel Original Movie – but, again, that’s part of the appeal. It knows what it is, it plays to its strengths, and it gives audiences of a certain age an excuse to get freaky one more time.
