REVIEW SUMMARY

With the dark comedy and riveting thrills hitting their target (and then some), Richard Linklater’s Hit Man may just be the surprise crowd pleaser of the Summer. And while I wouldn’t say that the film is ground-breaking or game-changing in any major way, it is effortlessly entertaining. Yep, it’s a genuinely breezy watch that will surely keep you captivated until the very, very end. This is not only thanks to some clever twists and tense turns, but also a rather seductive output from our lead Glen Powell. Fresh off big-time blockbuster hits like Top Gun: Maverick and Anyone but You, Powell yet again proves his worth as a bankable star here. He’s once more silky-smooth in the role (or should I say “roles”) in this film. What can I say, he’s got charisma for days and, let’s face it, true movie star good looks. There’s a real commitment to his craft that shines through also. That is to say, you can tell that he’s not just “going through the motions.” It also helps that he has great chemistry with Adria Arjona, who, by the way, also holds her own in this crazy noir-esque caper. Add in a wonderful foil in Austin Amelio’s vengeful Jasper and you’ve got an exceptionally well-rounded cast. And with perfect pacing, slick production design, and stirring dialogue, Hit Man is guaranteed to charm your socks off. Trust me, it’s well worth the hit!
