REVIEW SUMMARY

Adele Lim’s Joy Ride is a major win for diversity and debauchery in cinema. Yep, the film hits all the right R-rated comedy notes, taking plenty of chances in the raunchy humour department. But, like any great bawdy comedy, it’s the mix of humour and heart that makes it sparkle most. Each character is wholly unique here, bringing a distinct quirk and charm with them on this wild, wild ride. And despite their differences, their bond (and on-screen chemistry) is undeniable. What can I say, you just like watching this friend group. Now, do all the jokes land? Not quite, but it’s definitely a “more times than not” situation. Plus, there’s some real laugh-out-loud scenes that will no doubt rival those found in other depraved comedy classics. So yes, by not playing it safe, Joy Ride becomes a major comedy trip worth taking!
