REVIEW SUMMARY
Thanks to a waterlogged script, Meg 2: The Trench is a toothless B-movie bore. How could a movie about a giant prehistoric shark be so dull you ask? Well, for one, the first half of the movie is bogged down by exposition nonsense and a trip to the bottom of the ocean where things are so dark and murky you can barely see what’s going on. By the time we get what we all came for (you know, the shark attack stuff), it’s too little too late to care. In fact, I was rooting for the sharks to take out all the bland and unlikable characters. Ok, maybe not Jason Statham – as he still exudes his trademark affable macho charisma. But even when things do hit the fan, there’s little to enjoy. The movie is lacking in any real tension, nor do they play up the camp factor. It’s only half taken seriously and only half self-aware. There’s zero commitment, and therefore, no real enjoyment. Meg 2: The Trench isn’t so much a “stay out of the water’ scenario as much as it is a “stay out of the cinema” situation!
