Stuck thousands of miles away in Los Angeles, June creatively uses all the latest technology at her fingertips to try and find her before it's too late. But as she digs deeper, her digital sleuthing raises more questions than answers.

REVIEW SUMMARY

A twisty techno thriller with intrigue to spare, Missing delivers a unique viewing experience, while never overstaying its welcome. Yes, following up on the well-crafted 2018 film Searching, Missing once again proves that a technology told story definitely works. It’s actually pretty impressive that the film only uses cell phone and laptop screens, security footage, and smart watches to tell the story. Sure, it’s totally a gimmick, but for this type of mystery laden genre, it works wonders. And it’s all because we, the audience, get to play detective too. You know, by scanning the screen, looking for clues and hidden messages. It’s fun! But it also means that this is not a film that you can turn your brain off for. Not to say that there is “work” involved, but it does require some attention to detail. Helping matters though, is our capable (and incredibly likable) lead, Storm Reid. More than your typical teen, Reid plays June’s cunning technology skills with believability. Unfortunately, the plot’s believability takes a bit of a nosedive in the third act. In fact, it’s probably best not to think too much into things at all (the plot holes add up I’m afraid). But, on the plus side, it all takes place with an enjoyably brisk pace. And at under 2-hours, it’s an easy, breezy watch. So, while Missing could have used a bit more bite, it's definitely a movie you’ll want to stay plugged into!
