Replicas is flat out ludicrous in every which way—and not the good kind. You know, for a movie dealing with such complex and advanced neuroscience and synthetic biology, it’s all pretty dumb. The leaps of faith we viewers are expected to take are not only enormous, but constant. The idea itself - secretly replicating your family without them or anyone else knowing, is an immensely intriguing one. It's just too bad this film does absolutely nothing with it. Instead, we get a brain dead story with lazy performances across the board. Seriously, a Keanu Reeve cardboard cutout would have sufficed – which is disappointing, as Keanu has been churning out some really great work as of late. So yes, there are tinnnny crumbs of interesting elements to be found, but in the end, this movie is just one big pile of missed opportunities.
