SYNOPSIS
By 2024, COVID-19 has mutated and the world is in its fourth pandemic year. In the United States, people infected with the virus are taken from their homes against their will and forced into quarantine camps, also known as "Q-Zones" or Concentration Camps. Nico, a motorbike courier with immunity, races across the empty streets of Los Angeles in an attempt to save his girlfriend, Sara.
REVIEW SUMMARY
Even for a science fiction action film, Songbird is frustratingly far-fetched! And it’s not even the “mutated virus” or “extreme quarantine measures” that are the problem here, it’s the ludicrous character choices and annoying contrivances that bring the story down. And that’s not saying anything of the plot holes so big you can drive a truck through them. In short- the movie has a script problem! Luckily, it doesn’t overstay its welcome, clocking in at a brisk 1 hour and 30 minutes. On the performances front, KJ Apa is the standout, once again flexing his overt onscreen likability. Unfortunately for the rest of the cast (including the often under-appreciated Demi Moore), it all comes across as phoned-in. So, while the filmmakers deserve praise for pulling off a pandemic film during an actual pandemic, it remains a shame that the sickly script infected the final product!
