REVIEW SUMMARY
5 words that I have been dreading since 2017: The Boss Baby is back. This time, however, the overstuffed shenanigans are actually fairly entertaining. To be clear, there is once more too much going on. Way – too – much! But, I suspect kids will happily let the convoluted narrative intricacies fly over their heads in exchange for the attention-grabbing onscreen hijinks. With a barrage of vibrant action and adventure (not to mention ninja babies. Yes – ninja babies), the film never stops to take a breath. I mean, sure our attention spans have grown shorter over the years, but this is ridiculous. The plot is far from empty though, as it is brimming with themes around growing up, acceptance, sibling bonds, overcoming fears, authoritarianism, embracing imagination, the dangers of technology, and… I think you get the point. The problem is, with so much going on, the messages all get a little lost, lessening their intended impact. One thing the movie does nail, however, is the voice cast. Yep – Alec Baldwin is back in all his Donald Trump-infused baby glory. Along for the ride this time around are James Marsden, Amy Sedaris, and Jeff Goldblum, all of whom go the extra mile in their own respective vocal performances. Like I said, it’s all very amusing. It’s just a shame that they didn’t give the overflowing story a much-needed diaper change.
