REVIEW SUMMARY
The Sun Is Also A Star, yet another book to screen YA Romance, ultimately fails to burn as brightly as others in its genre. That is to say that the whole thing is just OK - a middle of the road teen romancer added to the shuffle. I will admit that our two lead actors put forth a decent enough effort, and no doubt have palpable chemistry with one another. In fact, Charles Melton seems to have the “effortless smoulder look" down pat (or maybe it’s just a case of “resting smoulder face"). Perhaps the biggest thing the film can boast about is it’s culturally diverse and vibrant depiction of New York City. From the bustling streets of Harlem and Brooklyn, to inside subway cars and a Korean karaoke bar, this movie actually makes for a decent New York tourism ad. Unfortunately, the film's kitschy physics VS fate theme is rather annoyingly played out and feels forced more times than not. So yeah, it's probably best that you apply a healthy dose of cinema sunscreen before seeing this one..
