REVIEW SUMMARY

Director Tom Gormican and company have crafted a massively enjoyable ode to the classics of Nick F’n Cage. This isn’t some SNL-type parody or hollow vanity project. It’s a rather touching self-aware adventure with plenty of nuances paid to the craftsmanship of it all. In fact, the script itself is surprisingly smart, with plenty of clever turns along the way. In short, it’s not only a love letter to great Nicholas Cage films, but an homage to great films – period. Did I mention it is also really funny? There are some genuine belly laughs to be had here, mostly thanks to Cage and co-star Pedro Pascal. The two play off each other with great gusto, each elevating the other’s comedy notes throughout. But, is there a better “straight man” out there than Nicholas Cage? Add in the likes of Tiffany Haddish and Neil Patrick Harris, and the laughs keep coming. But, do you need to know about Nicholas Cage/have seen his movies to enjoy the film? No, but your enjoyment factor will increase ten-fold if you do/have. That’s because even the musical score gets its cues from Nick Cage’s filmography. It all makes the nostalgia trip that much sweeter. And trust me when I tell you, this is one trip you’ll definitely want to take. What are you waiting for - get in the cage baby!
