REVIEW SUMMARY
The good news: Angelina Jolie’s still got it! The bad news: this is an average paint-by-numbers action throwback. Ok, so the 90’s action formula still provides a helping of fun here, but it owes most of that enjoyment to its cast. As alluded to, Jolie completely owns her role as a rebel “smoke jumper” with a tragic backstory. She also manages some pretty incredible chemistry with her pint-sized co-star, Finn Little (I guess the little guy deserves credit for that too). Meanwhile, our merciless assassin duo, compiled of Nicholas Hoult and Aiden Gillen, are equally amusing, spewing majorly entertaining banter throughout. Add in the underrated gem that is Jon Bernthal, and a slick cameo from Tyler Perry, and you got quite the solid cast of characters. It’s a bit of shame then, that the action is overly stale, giving way to silliness more times than not. To be fair, Sheridan’s direction does add a nice jolt to the proceedings. So, if you’re in the mood for some 90’s level action fun, Those Who Wish Me Dead has got you covered. As for me, I’m just happy to see Angelina Jolie saving the day again!
