REVIEW SUMMARY
Jordan Peele’s second go-around in the director's chair simply needs to be seen to be f’n believed! Not unlike his first feature, Get Out, Us is a big ol’ ambitious horror / comedy with plenty of substance. What makes this film stand out is the craftsmanship that went into it: direction, cinematography, editing, writing, musical score and performances are all A-grade excellent. Lupita Nyong’o is particularly phenomenal in her (dual) motherly role, and dare I say, deserves early awards consideration. And in true Jordan Peele fashion, the film has LOTS to say. If you look for them, you'll find a variety of underlying commentaries ranging from the human condition and oppression to family life in today's America. Now, the film could have done without a rather long (and out of place) "information dump" in the finale. I'm sure viewers could put the story pieces together without getting spoon-fed every last little detail (I mean, I hope anyways). But in the end, like a slashing from a pair of oversized shiny sharp scissors, Us will surely leave a lasting mark on its audiences!
