REVIEW SUMMARY

Rejoice - Wrath of Man is yet another first-rate gritty crime actioner from Guy Ritchie. Slickly produced and tautly directed, Ritchie delivers suspense and intrigue by the handful. Yep, prepare to get sucked in from the very opening scene and stay wide-eyed until the closing credits. But, as engrossing as it is, it’s really not all that original. The generic crime/revenge plot is certainly bolstered by some storytelling ingenuity by our director (it’s kind of his trademark, after all). You see, the stark tale is chopped up into non-linear chapters, each adding jussst enough puzzle pieces to the big picture. Big revelations fall into place around the mid-way mark, setting the stage for quite the bombastic finish. Yes, it’s been done before, but Ritchie’s craftsmanship gives it some extra bite. There’s also something to be said about our lead, Jason Statham. Reuniting with the British director (Snatch, Revolver etc.), Statham is excellent as our pained anti-hero. He’s believable, raw, and, frankly, pretty damn badass! The rest of the cast definitely bring the goods as well, with Scott Eastwood oozing attitude in a particular standout role. Add in a brisk pace to the proceedings, not to mention all the bullet-ridden action you can handle, and Wrath of Man easily becomes one of the most effectively thrilling movies of the year!
