SYNOPSIS
Growing up in the Midwest in the late 90's / early 00s, sixteen-year-old Alice has always been a good Catholic. Seeking redemption, she attends a mysterious religious retreat to try and suppress her urges, but it isn't easy, especially after a cute upperclassman starts flirting with her. Alice's sense of shame is spiralling when she uncovers a shocking truth about the retreat's most devout."
REVIEW SUMMARY
There’s no doubt about it, Yes, God, Yes is a heavenly coming of age comedy that sprouts major wings. Don’t be thrown by the “sexual discovery” theme though, this is definitely not American Pie. Here, the subject matter is handled a little more subtly (with its tongue firmly planted in cheek). But, that doesn’t make the comedy any less biting. In fact, the naïve nature of our protagonist leads to plenty of “so wrong, yet so funny” moments. Credit definitely needs to be given to Natalia Dyer (whom most will recognize as Nancy from Stranger Things), as she goes all in with her performance, never showing any signs of restraint with the more embarrassing scenes she’s in (and there are plenty). Having the movie take place in the late 90’s is also a nice touch, adding lots of “hindsight humour” to the mix. So, while not another “teens gone wild” debauched sex comedy, trust me, this one still hits all the right spots!
