REVIEW SUMMARY
With the sensibility of Judy Blume and the sense of humour of Adam Sandler, Sammi Cohen’s You Are So Not Invited To My Bat Mitzvah is an enjoyably breezy good time. Yep, there’s a real charm to the proceedings here, thanks in part to the more than capable cast at hand – namely Adam’s oldest daughter, Sunny Sandler. Here, Sunny and her cast-mates bring an authenticity to their young teen characters, while also delivering plenty of biting lines of dialogue. Plus, it was nice to see Adam Sandler and the wickedly talented Idina Menzel reunite as husband and wife (is this a precursor to Uncut Gems?) As for the script, it is no doubt a smart one - with lots of effortless humour and heart. The movie’s coming-of-age messages and themes surrounding friendship and change also hit their requisite targets. It’s a very light and colourful affair, but that only makes it more suitable for the entire family (yes, even grandma). Easily watchable and simply enjoyable, trust me, you’ll definitely want to RSVP to this one!
