REVIEW SUMMARY
Jason Moore’s Shotgun Wedding may be a comedy fluff piece, but it’s a spirited one. It’s a movie that knows what it is – a comical screwball diversion with a game cast of stars. So, it’s not an action/comedy genre game-changer, but it is an amusing bit of comfort viewing. You pretty much know exactly what you’re going to get from it, and it delivers – no more, no less. And while the comedy never goes beyond the “chuckle mark,” there is plenty of it. This is thanks to an eager ensemble cast who do a lot of heavy lifting with the material they’ve been given to work with. I mean, it looks like they are all having a good time here, so that helps. As for our 2 leads, Jennifer Lopez and Josh Duhamel, they are effortless in their respective roles. That’s probably because they have done so many of these Rom-Coms that they can do the job in their sleep at this point. There is something to be said for Lopez though, as she continues to exude an undeniably large amount of charisma, not to mention sex appeal. What can I say, the camera loves her. The film’s scene stealer is Jennifer Coolidge though. Coolidge delivers her one-liners with puckered precision and clearly has fun with some of the more physically comedic moments. Plus, we get a slow motion shot of her firing off a machine gun! The big miss here is the odd mix of action. The barrage of bullets and explosions just never meshes with the other elements of the film. It’s a tonal misfire. Luckily, at just 1 hour and 40 minutes, Shotgun Wedding doesn’t overstay its welcome - so it has that going for it. Also, did I mention you get to see Jennifer Coolidge fire off a machine gun!?
