REVIEW SUMMARY
Len Wiseman’s Ballerina is a slick spin-off that packs the Wick punch and unveils a worthy new lead in Anna de Armas. Yep, the blood-soaked ballet of bullets fits right into the John Wick universe with Anna de Armas as Eve, a fierce and fully capable new lead. Let’s just say she proves she's has no problem keeping up with the franchise’s trademark relentless action. And once again, there’s no such thing as overkill, and violence isn’t just spectacle - it’s art. The choreography, stunt work, and ultra-stylized visuals are every bit as impressive as fans demand, ramping up to a third act that explodes in a symphony of bodies hitting the ground. And yes — as the trailer reveals — Keanu’s John Wick shows up. But, don’t get too excited, it’s more of a glorified cameo than a full on return. Thankfully, de Armas holds her own with a performance that’s as bruising as it is believable. The film also deepens the franchise’s killer lore, expanding the shadowy assassin society with new layers, fresh faces, and plenty of lethal flair. While not all the new characters get equal screen time — and a few fates are easy to see coming — the additions serve their purpose. And sure, the runtime could’ve used a trim (or two), but the pulse-pounding score and high-stakes carnage keep things moving nicely. Ballerina may not reinvent the Wick formula, but it doesn’t need to. It sharpens it - and then stabs you in the face with it.
