Captain Marvel is just that: a marvel of a, well, Marvel movie! And while things aren't perfect (starts off on some pretty shaky ground before finding its footing), it's a rather engaging watch with puzzle piece after puzzle piece coming together nicely by the end. The excessive last act is a tad too formulaic however, but then again, that’s always been super-hero movie’s Kryptonite (yeah I know - wrong universe). On the acting front, Brie Larson delivers loads of charisma while her on-screen chemistry with Samuel L. Jackson is nothing short of phenomenal. Ben Mendelsohn also deserves major praise for delivering a truly great performance even whilst buried under a cornucopia of makeup and CGI. Speaking of which, the film boasts some beautiful candy coloured visuals along with cutting edge special effects (they managed to de-age Sam Jackson mother f'n flawlessly). So while Captain Marvel might not be as cultural groundbreaking as say Black Panther (or DC's Wonder Woman for that matter), it's still one hell of a ride that you'll want to take again and again!
