SYNOPSIS
M3GAN is a marvel of artificial intelligence, a lifelike doll that's programmed to be a child's greatest companion and a parent's greatest ally. Designed by Gemma, a brilliant roboticist, M3GAN can listen, watch and learn as it plays the role of friend and teacher, playmate and protector. When Gemma becomes the unexpected caretaker of her 8-year-old niece, she decides to give the girl an M3GAN prototype, which leads to unimaginable consequences.
REVIEW SUMMARY
Believe or not, there is yet another killer doll to get excited about! With the perfect blend of silly camp and chilling horror, M3GAN starts off 2023 on a fearsomely fun note! Ok, so there is a lot of “Chucky” homages being paid, but while imitation is the greatest form of flattery, just know that there is also enough narrative originality to make M3GAN stand on her own. In fact, the film’s tone is wonderfully weird and, well, quite hilarious (purposely I might add). It’s clear that the film doesn’t take itself too seriously – and neither should you. It’s not so much about genuine scares as it is about the eventual bonkers chaos that ensues. But because we know what awaits, the journey to get there can admittedly get a tad tedious. It’s not until things do hit the fan, that the real fun starts. And what fun it is to see this 4-foot silicone covered creepy-cutesy robot/doll go beast mode on everyone in her path! There is also something to be said about the film’s soundtrack, as there are some wonderful needle drops that are gloriously paired with M3GAN’s rampages. Take heed horror-comedies, M3GAN sets the bar high here, and she looks great doing it!
