REVIEW SUMMARY

So much for diminishing returns – the 7th entry in the Mission: Impossible franchise delivers a barrage of premium action entertainment! Yep, Tom Cruise and company have once more produced a high-octane thrill ride that willy surely satisfy all your blockbuster cravings. And while the non-stop action set pieces and awe-inspiring stunts are epic in every which way, the plot itself is as intriguing as ever – not to mention timely. You see, the threat this time around comes courtesy of a sentient AI weapon – the “entity” as it’s referred to. The diabolical digital terror is aided by some new and returning characters mind you, each more intriguing than the last. And when you add in all the twists, turns and super high stakes, you get one heck of a meaty narrative to untangle. Admittedly, it gets a little “dumbed down” at times with some spoon fed explanations and recaps. You know, making sure it's accessible to everyone - no matter what brain capacity they may have. There are also a few too many “dumb luck” moments here too, but what can you do? Of course, the film (and the franchise for that matter) wouldn’t work nearly as well as it does without the unmatched on-screen charisma of Tom Cruise. Yes, Tom’s publicized stunt work is intense and impressive, but it’s more than that. His mere presence is as magnetic as it is effortless at this point. Perhaps the last true “movie star,” Cruise has not slowed down one iota. In fact, he ramps things up to a fever pitch here. And, I for one can’t wait to see what he jumps off of next. Bring on the sequel!
