REVIEW SUMMARY
Curry Baker’s Obsession is gloriously unhinged – twisting the diabolical (yet simple) premise into something equally disturbing and amusing. Oh yeah – this is absolutely a filmmaker to keep your eye on. Baker manages to balance wicked humor with genuine dread in a way that feels both confident and intentionally off-kilter. And while the story itself is fairly straightforward (and occasionally even a touch predictable) the execution is what elevates it. You see, it is told with such an engaging mix of unease and entertainment that you’ll find yourself thinking about particular scenes long after the credits roll. And yes, there’s humor sprinkled throughout, but don’t let that fool you: this movie is legitimately creepy. Baker knows exactly how to move a camera, when to hold a shot, and when to finally reveal the horror lurking in the frame. What you won’t find here are cheap jump scares. Sure, there are more than a few moments that will genuinely rattle you in your seat, but the real terror comes from how the tension is allowed to simmer - building slowly until it finally erupts like a powder keg. There’s also a specific flavor of what I like to call cringe horror at play. Not because the filmmaking is cringey, but because the characters are thrust into situations so uncomfortably intimate, that your whole body reacts. It’s quite something. The performers deserve props too, especially Inde Navarette, who delivers a standout performance. Without giving anything away, the vibe here is something like Get Out’s trapped-consciousness dread combined with the overbearing, obsessive affection seen in thrillers like Fatal Attraction. It’s a fusion that works wonders. Yep, you’ll find yourself invested in the characters, laughing at moments of absurdity, and most importantly - genuinely frightened by the film’s disturbingly bonkers glory. Prepare to be obsessed with Obsession!
