SYNOPSIS

It is the eleventh instalment of the Madea film series (first was Diary of a Mad Black Woman—2005) and reportedly the final in the franchise

A joyous family reunion becomes a hilarious nightmare as Madea and the crew travel to backwoods Georgia, where they find themselves unexpectedly planning a funeral that might unveil unsavoury family secrets

REVIEW SUMMARY

Not to be mean, but here’s hoping this is the 11th and final nail in the Madea franchise coffin. Ok, I guess I meant to be mean. While the film is good for a few chuckles (most of them coming from a police traffic-stop scene), it is mostly just a mess made up of bad acting, bad writing and bad jokes. To be fair, Perry seems to be having fun with his (many) characters, and that undoubtably does rub off on the audience some. However, the tawdry soap opera storyline is so atrocious that it’s an insult to actual soap operas. Madea has unfortunately run her course and perhaps it is best that Perry hang up the grey curly wig for good.
