REVIEW SUMMARY
Robin Hood's arrow ultimately fails to ignite a meaningful reboot for our age-old hero in 2018. However, it isn’t alllll bad. I dug that this felt almost like “Robin Hood meshed with Batman,” in that it’s a gritty, often violent story with a wealthy hero / vigilante helping abused citizens rise up to tyranny. The issue is that everything (and I mean everything) in this film is pretty underwhelming. The stylized action sequences are ok, but it’s been done better (feels like a subpar copy of a Guy Ritchie action movie). The story is also fairly familiar (minus a few tweaks to the mythos), and the CGI is not only heavy, but can look rather iffy at times. I will say that Taron Egerton’s take on Robin as a more youthful, charming hero works better than Russell Crowe's 2010 iteration. Marion’s story had promise at the start but alas, quickly fizzled out. So like this year’s Lara Croft, The Girl In The Spider’s Web and Predator, Robin Hood is just too mediocre to truly bring about a worthy (and successful) reboot to a popular franchise.
