REVIEW SUMMARY

Jinkies! Scoob is overstuffed with hapless hijinks. That is to say that this nostalgia-heavy animated feature tries to do way too much in its 94 minute runtime, suffering because if it. It starts off fine enough however, as we get a cute “origin story” showing how the gang came together. To be honest, I wouldn’t have minded if the story stayed in the past longer, or even the full duration for that matter. Unfortunately, it goes off the rails almost immediately with the additions of characters from Hana-Barbera’s past. These include: Blue Falcon, Dynomutt, Dick Dastsardly, Captain Caveman, Muttley, and Simon Cowell. Ok, so that last one isn’t a Hana-Barabera property, but he’s in the movie nonetheless. The plot also veers into confounding territory, likely leaving kids confused with all the “twists.” But, to be fair, there are a handful of fun action and silliness to make you smile. The voice cast is also game here, easily finding their footing as these iconic crime solvers. But, perhaps the real mystery at hand, is how this overflowing script got approved in the first place?
