REVIEW SUMMARY
After all these years, Shaft is still a bad mother f***cker alright, with emphasis on the bad! You see, in this latest franchise retread, the filmmakers turn the camp up real high, but unfortunately forget to elevate everything else. Sure, Jackson gets some fun one liners in, and it's a genuine treat to see Roundtree join the action again, but man this is a bottom of the barrel reboot attempt (19 years later no less). The script is mindless, dialogue atrocious, and features performances ranging from straight up slapstick goofy to scenery chewing cringey. Making matters worse, there's also an uncomfortable amount of humour based around what it means to be a "real man" - ugh. Toxic masculinity aside, the soundtrack remains killer. At least they didn't screw that up.
