Breezy, funny, and oh so irreverent, Randall Park’s Shortcomings makes for a wonderful character study with plenty of heart to go around. It also serves as quite the showcase for actor Justin H. Min as our lead character Ben. Here, Justin is witty and swoon worthy, but more importantly, real. With some self-absorbedness and Seinfeld-esque pettiness at play, the character is as flawed as he is likeable. In short, he’s refreshingly portrayed as, well, a real human. Of course, he’s not alone, as Ally Macki and Sherry Cola also bring the affable goods to the table. Now, the plethora of snappy dialogue and lack of “cinematic visuals” makes it all seem like a situational comedy made for television or streaming. Not necessarily a bad thing given the offbeat-ness of it all. In fact, if this was a TV series, I’d watch the heck out of it. And if it was a comic book, I’d read that too. Wait, what’s that…
