Hoping to get closer as a family, Gomez, Morticia and the rest of the Addams clan embark on an adventurous road trip in a hideous and humongous camper.
The Addams Family 2 delivers more of the same oddball shenanigans found in the first animated entry. And while that’s not entirely a bad thing, this is perhaps a case of going to the well one too many times. You see, we get yet another Wednesday-centric story here, and it once more focuses on her place within the strange family (they take the concept quite literally this time though). Listen, I think Wednesday is probably the most interesting of the cooky clan, but we literally examined this exact concept in the last movie. More so, the fun road trip aspects are all but overshadowed by this main plot piece too, leaving me to wonder why they even “hit the road” in the first place. The other thing this movie does, is expand on the “ick” factor. Yep, look for plenty of oogly-googly visuals that, depending on your child, will either delight or disgust them. No major complaints on my end, as this is the Addams Family after all. What I will complain about, however, is the lack of charm. I mean, the first instalment was lacking as well (compared to the live action 60’s series and beloved films of the 90’s), but this doesn’t make any improvements I’m afraid. Maybe it’s the (more-times-not) lame jokes, or the overly juvenile circumstances, but it never reaches the macabre-infested magic of yore. Our love of these characters can only carry us so far before we shut the door on this family all together.
