SYNOPSIS

Is based on the true to life Mexican folklore of La Llorona. The film also serves an addition to to the “Conjuring Movie Universe.”

In 1970s Los Angeles, the legendary ghost La Llorona is stalking the night -- and the children. Ignoring the eerie warning of a troubled mother, a social worker and her own kids are drawn into a frightening supernatural realm. Their only hope of surviving La Llorona's deadly wrath is a man who practices mysticism to keep evil at bay.

REVIEW SUMMARY

The Curse Of La Llorona scares up some genuine tension, but can't fully break the curse of a lacking script. La Llorona’s overall story (and true to life folklore) is an interesting one, but the film never digs deep enough into the potential of it all. The film also falters from its repetitiveness, in that they go to the same “jump scare well” way too many times. There are only so many instances where the same creepy silhouette can pop out at you before boredom sets in. Luckily the movie does give way to a number of legitimate tension filled moments and boasts decent performances from its leading cast. In the end, The Curse Of La Llorona, while effective in parts, could (and should) have been so much more.
