REVIEW SUMMARY

Sean Dunkin’s The Nest is a collection of icy tension, stellar performances, and brooding drama. So, expect a large helping of nuanced slow burn domestic dysfunction! Jude Law and Carrie Coon find themselves in some rather juicily complex roles here, and boy do they nail it. Coon in particular shines bright with her portrayal, as all of her character’s rage, sadness, and confliction seeps out of the actress at all times, effortlessly putting the audience right inside her mindset. The movie also benefits from some really gorgeous scenery and production (it’s set in England during the 80’s btw). This includes the mansion the family moves into, as it alone becomes an added character in its own right. And yes, while there are plenty of tense moments, some may still be disappointed with the lack of “thriller” instances (not your typical thriller/horror folks). But, there’s no denying the genuinely compelling tale that’s puts forth, as it’s one that will have you nervously intrigued ‘til the very end.
