REVIEW SUMMARY
A transgressive orgy of madness, Titane is all but guaranteed to be the most unforgettable film you’ll see all year! With a wholly unique (albeit disturbing) story at hand, Julia Ducournau’s sophomore film will not only keep you captivated for every provocative minute, but also guessing the entire time. Yep, the twists are extra twisted here, all leading to the most unorthodox of circumstances. And while it is a seriously perplexing journey, it is one filled with genuine emotion. You see, amidst all the body horror and graphic visuals (and there’s a lot of it), the movie ultimately speaks to the human condition, namely the pain that comes with deep loss and the complexity of body/mind disconnect. There are also themes surrounding aging, sexuality, and masculinity. Take from it what you will, but just know you are likely not going to forget anything you will see any time soon. That is to say that Ducournau shows it all. And with a large helping of David Cronenberg-esque inspiration, she makes it an unflinchingly raw affair. The performances also go for broke, with Agathe Rousselle and Vincent Lindon making for one hell of an on-screen pair by the end. So, if it’s bold and visceral cinema you want (and why wouldn’t it be), Titane is just the experience to get your engines revving!
