SYNOPSIS

Is inspired by the true story of the Military Wives Choirs, a network of 75 choirs in British military bases across the UK and overseas, featured in the UK television series The Choir.

With their partners away serving in Afghanistan, a group of women on the home front form a choir and quickly find themselves at the centre of a media sensation and global movement.

REVIEW SUMMARY

A formulaic fact-based crowd pleaser, Military Wives is harmless entertainment in every way possible. It’s pleasant, uplifting and endearing. It’s also a movie you’ve seen many times before, basically amounting to Sister Act without the nuns and gangsters. And while that’s not necessarily a bad thing, the film could surely benefit from having more of a “true-to-life” edge in order to even out the “fluff.” As performances go, Kristen Scott Thomas and Sharon Horgan play their parts perfectly, and are clearly having fun doing so. The rest of the cast make up a fairly cliched rag-tag group of reluctant singers. Again, nothing that you haven’t seen previously. But all in all, everything comes together rather nicely for an enjoyable finish that will no doubt make you feel good in the moment. And heck, momentary escapism is in pretty high demand these days!
